Chemical Peels

, Chemical Peels
Maintaining a healthy and youthful looking skin is important for many people. You can do this by using a variety of products and also through cosmetic procedures. Bentley SkinCare and Wellness offer chemical peels, one of the least invasive ways to improve the look of your skin. Learn more about the benefits of this treatment option during a consultation with in Springfield, MO.

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are a treatment that helps to improve the look of skin by removing the worn outer layer and exposing fresh skin.

During treatment, a member of our team will apply a peeling agent to the skin to induce the peeling process. This process removes superficial damaged skin in a controlled way to promote the re-growth of a healthier skin layer.

What do Chemical Peels treat?

Aside from exposing fresh skin, a chemical peel can also help to treat a variety of other skin issues. These include:

  • Uneven skin texture
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Skin impurities

What to expect during treatment

Because there is a wide range of products used for chemical peels, each session may be slightly different. Most products stay on the skin for a short time, between three to five minutes. There are also products that contain agents to make them self-neutralizing; these can stay on the skin for an hour or more. Our team can explain the specifics tied to the product being used during your treatment at our Springfield office.

At the start of each session, the specialist will clean the skin to ensure it is oil free. This is done via a medical degreaser. Oil on the skin can cause the peel not to work. After the skin is clear of any make-up, oil or other products, the chemical peel will be applied.

The Peeling and Healing process

Immediately following a chemical peel, the skin often feels tight or warm to the touch. Over the next few days, the top layer will appear to be fluffy and dry.

After the treatment, the top layers of the skin peel. While it might be tempting to help this along by picking at it, this is unnecessary and not helpful. The natural process of peeling will expose fresh skin underneath, but rubbing or picking at the skin can cause deeper peeling. It is best to allow the skin to do what it does best, and naturally, recover on its own.

Skin peeling can last a few days and is best minimized with the application of moisturizer. Keeping the skin moisturized will lower visible flaking but still allow the top layer of skin to come off. A gentle cleanser used each day can also help in this process.

Avoiding the sun is very important during the peeling process. The skin is new and fresh under the dead layer, so it is easier to get a sunburn at this point. Taking the time to give your skin a boost of care as it recovers will make the skin underneath even more healthy and radiant.
